To a Sociopath, Ethical People Are Bad People. Don't Fall for It.
If you put sociopaths on a pedestal, the pedestal will break
Putting aside shallow metaphors about pots and kettles, there seems to be a profound issue we're not "meant" to talk about because the "masters" (of the CoCs) forbid discussion of it [1, 2].
Suppose your boss is a sociopath. What are you going to do about it? Tell this to your boss? Complain about that boss? Both approaches carry a risk to one's livelihood; these sorts of bosses know this and the apprehension lets them carry on.
In the case of Free software communities, the bosses are typically sponsors (corporations such as Google). This means confronting them or complaining about them is "career suicide".
Instead of trying to demonise those who find the courage to call out the culprits we need to listen to them and support them. Being passive is a bad choice. Eventually, sooner or later, the sociopath/s will come after everyone. █
