WordPress is Technical Debt
3 years ago we abandoned WordPress. It was a much-belated success story as for reasons specified a decade earlier we had long planned to abandon WordPress. More and more reasons added up, even before WordPress and especially WordPress.com became slop-ware (LLM integration that users mostly loathed; data was also being passed for training plagiarism).
At the moment we discuss how to retroactively import "categories" (what WordPress calls these) from ~38,000 old ("o" in the URL hierarchy) pages onto the newer system, which is ingested into our search facility (independent and hosted locally).
This is the sort of technical debt one gets for spending many years entering a lot of stuff into WordPress, a large parcel of code that gets more complicated and bloated as the years go back (instead of becoming simpler, smaller, more compact, ergo earlier and cheaper to maintain). With Automattic getting carried away by the slop bubble, WordPress is also becoming a liability to the environment, hence to the planet.
There are a number of technical tasks underway and maybe some testing (this coming weekend or later). █
