Are layoffs not layoffs if you call them "PIPs" and/or "RAs"?
Is IBM shameful enough to flagrantly bypass the WARN Act?
Yes.
"To the managers out there," somebody wrote a few hours ago. "Any managers care to share what gets communicated to them on cutting employees? Any of that happening in the near future?"
The first comment wasn't too informative: "Managers, useless are not going to share, they protect themselves."
The second comment came from an alleged (self-described) "manager of a large team." It said: "We haven't received any communication about layoffs but we're being asked to put some employees on PIPs (15% of employees in a team) which makes me suspect this may be a step toward letting them go for sure."
That's what many others said before.
"Manager suggesting there are better opportunities outside," another site said yesterday. In a nutshell: "My colleague was told by his manager to look outside for better opportunities. They have a very close relationship, he was talking as a friend. If your own manager suggests you should be leaving for greener pastures... Not a good sign. I wonder if another round of layoffs is brewing. Have you heard?"
There are some useful comments there, such as: "There are always RA's coming, multiple per year depending on the site. Between the RA's would be the PIP target numbers handed down from above."
"My manager said the same thing to me. Three months later they were RA. I'm still at IBM but there just aren't more opportunities to grow anymore," another person said.
Elsewhere, an anonymous posted sarcastically said, "it’s always a great idea to “get rid of the old farts” and hire a bunch of GenZ college hires with no experience or training who also don’t know how to communicate - let alone work more than 3-4 hours a day without crying."
About the vapourware factory or hype factory of the CEO someone said: "Well now, hold on a minute, whatever happened to all that “RAAA RAAA!” prototyping push we heard about over and over again this past year? I thought Albany was gearing up to become some cutting-edge prototyping hub?"
They waste time and money lying to shareholders instead of fixing the company.
