    3am I can't sleep.

    A funny dream. I am looking for some food, a piece of bread that the store owner doesn't want to sell. It's for sampling some of the food. He pick up an olive with the bread and show me, this is how you would use it. He can't sell it to me.

    There are few spices that I try and really enjoy the taste. I'm thinking about all the thing I could cook with these. I could only have a couple spices and that is all I would need to improve the food that I am eating

  • Notes on replicating J-lens on RWKVv7

    Anthropic's J-lens was one of the rare tech in mech interp that somehow is scalable (compute once and reuse forever) and not labor intensive (doesn't try to manually understand one action at a time through raw sciencing). Computing J-lens was _really_ expensive. So much so that creating one lens for layer 18 for RWKV v7 1.5B took me about 2.5 hours on my Radeon R9700 (the workstation version of Radeon 9070XT).

    And... that utterly failed. The resulting lens produces utter garbage. But upon realizing how RWKV is constructed (vs Transformers that J-lens is developed on), I thought to myself, I am too dumb to reason with raw model internals.. what if I just apply Genetic Algorithm and make it search all possible coordinate transformations and find one that is simple yet reduces the post-lens entropy?

    This is another talk I am giving at COSCUP this year. :sigh:.. I am late making the drafts again, let alone the slides. Rush job, but what I must do is what I must.

    Esperanto was a company that originally tried to make a RISC-V based GPU. It later pivoted to a RISC-V AI accelerator, primarily aimed at CNN inference, named ET-SoC-1. The company closed in late 2025, AiNekko bought its IP, and the RTL was released through the OpenHW Group as CORE-ET.

  • A day at Cap Midia, Navodari

    Yesterday was one of those simple family days that don't need much planning to become memorable.

    We left home at 07:30, heading towards Cap Midia, near Navodari, for a day at the Black Sea. The drive took about 2 hours and 40 minutes, but once we arrived, the long road was quickly forgotten.

    The plan was simple: beach, sea, sun, and some time together as a family.

    No complicated itinerary. No rushing from one place to another. Just a day by the water.

    About a year ago, perhaps a bit more, I found myself getting uncomfortable with my reliance on tech giants. I started looking into alternatives, but they needed to be simple. My self-image as the cunning, resourceful cyber-warrior who needs nothing more than an old laptop and a secure internet connection is built on very shaky foundations. The truth is that I find talk of protocols and such a bit puzzling.

    My first target was replacing having my whole life relying on Google Calendar. Don't get me wrong. It works well, effortlessly syncs across all devices and causes no hassles. But if I want to get out of the shadow of the tech giant, here's where I'm starting.

  • Mimicking KARL using LLVM BOLT

    OpenBSD's KARL (Kernel Address Randomized Link) is one of the rare powermoves I see in computer security - along with OpenBSD's `unveil` and `pledge` feature. It singlehandly make an entire category of exploites (blind ROPs) much, much harder without much code and execution model change. However, unlike pledge and unveil, KARL does not have a Linux counterpart. OpenBSD just ships object files and uses a linker to relink. That model is not viable for most Linux distributions where most people just ship finished binaries. With the latest AI wave of vulns. I was thinking to myself... can I make my system, or at least the service I deploy hardned in the same way?

      i spent the past 2 days making some updates to my html/gemini blog. and i have a fun journey to share. besides a few question marks on kagi, there were no llms or gen-ai involved in this process.

      i wrote a simple backup utility last year that stopped working when i switched from a framework 13 to a framework 12 laptop. the problem was that i copied the backup utility, but not the systemd service/timer.
