    Last month I picked up a new shirt for one of my gigs (I only had one that fit), and got a $40 off coupon for my next purchase, good for this week. I put the reminder in my calendar. It came up today, so I grabbed a couple Oxford shirts. One in black (gig wear), one in a dark green.

  • Resident Evil 5

    At the moment, waiting for my girlfriend to finish at work and then we are going into Resident Evil 5 to play.

    I played this game with my friend around the time it came it, and it was a Resident Evil I enjoyed a lot.

    Must say, the second (and probably third :) time playing this, it still is a pretty good game!

  • Handwriting apps on an USI tablet

    So, December last year I was gushing over Saber Notes and how good it was but I ended up pretty much never ever using it. I’m trying Linwood Butterfly instead now.

    I loved that it ran on InkPalm Plus, the modded Light Phone III, on my old iPad, and on the Paper 7. (I didn't have the Retroid then.) On the two former devices I could use a capacitive stylus (which worked well) or even just fingers. Mostly the idea was to write on Paper 7 (with USI stylus) or on iPad (with the audaciously named "Pencil") and then be able to in a pinch read those notes on either the two more lighter devices. The WebDAV sync was really robust and awesome too.

    But in the end I didn’t want to run it on LP3 because from the help screen (or by typing URLs in documents) you can get to a web browser and I don’t want that. Linwood Butterfly shares that drawback.

  • On 'scaling up' and being the right size

    I regularly encounter questions along the lines of *"how do we scale things up?*, in particular around projects related to free knowledge, FLOSS or citizen science.

    It has basically started from the first citizen science effort and accompanied me through most of my volunteering work.

    And it's a question that has always sat wrong with me.

    Internet of Things (IoT) specialist Quectel has announced a pair of new cellular "smart modules," one designed for premium 4G LTE devices and the other for entry-level 5G NR designs: the SH602FA and SE505FE, both compatible with Google's Android 16 operating system.

    "With the SH602FA and SE505FE, we are making Android 16 available to IoT developers at both ends of the connectivity spectrum," says Quectel's Zeljko Maric of the new systems-on-modules. "Whether customers are developing high-performance industrial terminals using 4G or introducing affordable 5G connectivity into new categories of smart devices, they now have access to Android 16 in globally certifiable, production-ready smart modules that reduce design complexity and accelerate deployment."
