43 Years of GNU and GAFAM's (Especially Microsoft's) Attacks On It

A gnu (wildebeest) is no buffalo, but it is able to survive in tough terrains and navigate a complex landscape with vicious animals, broad rivers, and humans bearing spears.
3 days ago GNU managed to make it to its 44th year and the founder, now aged 73 (born in New York City back in 1953), is still active, still giving public talks. We'll have stories related to that in the coming months. We hope Moglen will join him soon.
GNU is very widely used (when people say "Linux commands" they typically mean "GNU programs"), hence it's being attacked a lot. At the moment Microsoft tries to put its copyrights and financial control all over COREUTILS [1, 2], then dump GNU. People who pay close enough attention strike back, as GitHub (proprietary), non-reciprocal licences etc. are more potent threats than just "Rust" (a straw man in this particular context). █
