  • Hitchhiking stories

    When I was young enough to still imagine myself to be invulnerable, and not to mind uncertainty about reaching my destination and having to sleep rough if things went wrong, I used to hitchhike. It's not something you see very often now, at least in the UK, but at the time it was a pretty common sight.

  • Dream (Them)

    In this one, I'm back at university. Reviewing some essays I need to write over the coming months. I get a message. From them. My ex, the most recent one. At the start of the millennium we dated for a few months. They were my first real relationship, though in retrospect, probably not in any way good. I took the bus south a couple of hours to be at their grad. It was awkward. They had been trying to hook up with classmates at parties before that, but I didn't know that yet. Later, I'd hear through one of their friends, that people were like, "why's he here? They said they'd broke up."

  • Rainy September

    We broke a record here in Tokyo: we had 34 consecutive days of rain. I feel like it rained every day last month. The sun finally came out yesterday, but it was cloudy again today. Unbelievably, Typhoon #27 is heading north towards us when #26 just passed by earlier this week and #25 before that. I can't even keep track of them anymore.

    At least autumn seems to have finally arrived. It is rather chilly this evening and it's cool in the mornings. It was quite hot yesterday, but the oppresive humidity of August is now thankfully gone.

    Also, a record for me: my NetBSD box has a current uptime of 403 days.

    • The Journey of Thoughts

      I enjoy reading gemlogs. Not because of FOMO but because it sparks the backside of the brain where lingering ideas stagnate. The importance of gemlogs comes from:

      * Thougths of real people

      * Thoughts on thoughts

      * Writing for the sake of writing

      * Not knowing who your readers are

    • ROOPHLOCH 2026: EPIPHLOGUE

      This was a crazy participation ROOPHLOCH for me! The journey took me to all kinds of places I haven't been in awhile. Out of the lab and into the field! 08 of 09 successful attempts; not so bad! I also got to mess around with technologies: the 8849 / Unihertz TANK05, QR codez, NFC, interdevice communications and sensors (BT, imaging, NFC, wifi), and SETEC ASTRONOMY, w0rd!

      My ROOPHLOCH 2026 efforts didn't start until mid-September I wanted at least 1 participation phost this year. Obviously, I had phosts greater than one.
