Proving Wrong Those Slop Maximalists and Boosters, GAFAM Says Slop is a Nuisance and Bans/Hides the Slop Submissions
They encourage and help generate slop; but when they're on the receiving end of slop they express disgust
Today we see that "Pop!_OS bans AI-generated code from much of its codebase" as "COSMIC has brought down the ban hammer on AI-generated code, joining other well-known projects like Godot and the Ladybird browser." There's more coverage of this (probably more to come tomorrow) and it seems timely because GAFAM too recognises that slop is a huge problem. As we put it in Daily Links:
Microsoft: "use SLOP or stay behind." Microsoft LinkedIn: "slop bad! Stop! It ruins us, Microsoft."Google does the same with YouTube and bug reports: they say utilise slop, then moan about being flooded with chaff.
The position or views of Michael Catanzaro about bug reports with slop are irreconcilable with the fact of an utter lack of human "resources", especially at IBM's Red Hat or GNOME.
As per the report above:
Google suspends product vulnerability submissions to its Open Source Software Vulnerability Reward Program (OSS VRP) over an influx of invalid AI-driven reports.
Even Google has had enough! Hypocrites!
People dunking and volleying slop as "code" "patches" into any project will demoralise and upset people who do things properly and need to inherit the mess of cheating 'colleagues'.
People who say slop in projects is inevitable or even desirable are usually cheaters with self-guilt. Their aim is to normalise the cheating; the damage cannot be undone. █
