Microsoft Shutdowns Accelerating, More Shutdowns Revealed (Not Connected to Gaming)

This morning/last night: More Shutdowns at Microsoft, Hundreds of Workers Impacted Shortly

This just hours ago: (late Friday or a weekend when few reporters pay attention)

Microsoft is shutting down The Garage, the companywide program that gave employees space and tools for side projects and ran its annual Global Hackathon. The move ends a 17-year run for an effort that started as a small Office Labs experiment in Redmond and grew into maker spaces across 15 regions, from Vancouver and New York to Israel, India and Beijing. GeekWire first reported the news, citing an internal FAQ, and some Garage spaces could be restricted starting Friday, October 23.

Microsoft's mass layoffs and shutdowns cannot catch a break, can they?

Microsoft is planning to tell shareholders about "efficiency" (cuts) and many units are flushed down the drain, along with staff in them (ambiguous statements made to the media mislead about internal openings amid hiring freeze). We see this in several continents this month. Microsoft does not give a complete list though. The above cites a Microsoft-funded mouthpiece of Microsoft, saying: "GeekWire first reported the news, citing an internal FAQ, and some Garage spaces could be restricted starting Friday, October 23."

Based on threads like these, many silent layoffs are going on, even in India.

Surveying other recent discussion threads between insiders, we find this assessment about locality:

Why majority of the posts here from seattle area

This is where many of the "expensive" workers are. Microsoft tries to get them to leave. Failing that, they will get pushed out:

What unexpected job did you take after your layoff?

Someone has just said that Microsoft will ask more people to leave (this coming week, apparently) under the guise of "VEP":

Take VEP and take 1 year off?

Silent layoffs disguised as "voluntary" "exits". █
