It's About Intention, Not Attrition, at Microsoft
Microsoft has formally put ~60,000 workers "on notice"; what it paints as voluntary while assuring corporate media acceptance rate will be low is a smokescreen as the "BS artist" avoids talking about the elephant in the room, which is what happens afterwards to those who say "no."

Microsoft is having mass layoffs. That is the intention. How it's "spun" or "twisted" is all about optics.
I spent over an hour today reading and collecting comments related to that.
What stands out this week is grotesque Microsoft spin whose aim it to make ~60,000 calls to leave seem like not a big deal at all! They cite Microsoft executives and their words are taken at face value.
Some hours ago I saw the term "compulsory redundancies" adopted as a new term for layoffs in the UK. Years ago I saw "buyouts" mentioned in the UK in relation to Google layoffs; I hadn't seen that term used much before (in such a context).
They are lying, they are hypnotising (while paying) the press.
As noted in this new comment, those who say "no" to a gentleman's "offer" (to leave Microsoft) won't be subjected to layoffs per se. They can be PIPed... or subjected to LITE. Even the above-mentioned push/shove approach has an acronym: VEP.
It is cryptic to outsiders, including the press.
Don't be fooled, Microsoft does in fact aim to push many workers off the cliff. It looks for the cheapest possible way. █
