Summary: Benoît Battistelli's army of minions, combined with former colleagues of António Campinos, team up to participate in the legal fudge of the EPO

During the oral proceedings held on 28 May in case no. G 1/21, the President of the European Patent Office was represented by a three-member legal team from the EPO's Directorate of Legal and International Affairs, known internally as DG5.

"...much of the behind-the scenes power is rumoured to be wielded by the so-called Chief International and Legal Officer, who is none other than Gilles Requena."DG5 is nominally under the control of the Vice-President, Christoph Ernst, a former chairman of the Administrative Council.

However, much of the behind-the scenes power is rumoured to be wielded by the so-called Chief International and Legal Officer, who is none other than Gilles Requena.

Requena, the husband of the notorious Elodie Bergot, is a former employee of the French INPI and one of the leading members of Team Battistelli who has been retained by Campinos, apparently for the sake of "continuity".

The legal team representing the President in case no. G 1/21 is headed by a Principal Director from DG5 (Mihály Ficsor), who is assisted by the Director of Patent Law (Heli Pihlajamaa) and further accompanied by a greenhorn DG5 lawyer (Tobias Irmscher).

"As there is a lot of interesting information available about Ficsor and his role in EPO affairs, we will need a number of instalments to cover all of this material."We will start by taking an in-depth look at Ficsor and his role in EPO affairs since Hungary acceded to the European Patent Convention back in 2003.

As there is a lot of interesting information available about Ficsor and his role in EPO affairs, we will need a number of instalments to cover all of this material.
