Working Towards Completion of Gemini as a Mirror

Work in progress: Techrights wiki in gemini://

Techrights wiki in gemini://

Summary: While we do not actually migrate to Gemini, we do intend to offer it as a complete option or alternative, with a 'first-class' experience and feature parity (to the extent possible given the artificial limitations of the protocol)

THIS is a bit of a heads-up for our gemini:// followers, who aren't few (over 8,000 page requests yesterday).

At the moment we algorithmically convert the Techrights wiki -- hopefully all of the wiki, not just the articles (nearly 31,000 of them) -- into Gemini (protocol/space/text) with the intention of having it pick up wiki updates as well (from HTTP) without manual intervention. It already updates as part of the cron jobs. It's a rather big project, it does appear to have been attempted before, and it may be useful/handy to other MediaWiki users because the syntax is very widely used.

We'll say more when this is done or nearly done. Gemini is self-hosted from home and next week we get fibre installed. Less limitation, lower latency.
