Wiki Expansion to Gemini:// Almost Done

wiki-gemini

Summary: We're close to completing the wiki migration (or rather mirroring) to Gemini protocol

Gemini:// will be temporarily down some time tomorrow for network upgrades, but in the meantime much progress was made on automatically converting wiki pages to gemini:// (including code to regenerate them so as to keep them updated or in sync; wiki pages, unlike articles, are not static).

"Hopefully some time after the network upgrade we'll manage to tidy things up and formally announce completion."Given the popularity of some wiki pages (e.g. almost 2.5 million views of the EPO index) it would be nice to have them mirrored across. We already did the EPO's page (a gemini:// clone) manually, but to keep things synchronised and updated that needs to be automated. There are many more important pages (e.g. this one about European software patents) and we want to give people another option for access; this is particularly convenient for people with old machines, small devices, or no eyesight (gemini:// is very good for blind people).

Hopefully some time after the network upgrade we'll manage to tidy things up and formally announce completion. The above is just a preview or a sneak peek.
