Prebuilt mechanical keyboards often neglect Linux support. Users frequently report success in getting a mechanical keyboard's basic functions to work, but many of these peripherals don't accommodate software for controlling advanced features, like macros, with Linux. Since last year, System76's Launch keyboard has been trying to address that problem. But number crunchers will be much more interested in the new Launch Heavy.
Released this week, the Launch Heavy is a numpad-equipped version of the 84-key Launch. As detailed in our System76 Launch review, the keyboard is one of the most customizable Linux-focused mechanical keyboards one can find. However, an absent numpad made the Launch an immediate 'no' for many. Now, the newly released Launch Heavy is addressing many, but not all, of its smaller counterpart's shortcomings.

This is the first release candidate for the upcoming Wine 8.0. It marks the beginning of the yearly code freeze period. Please give this release a good testing and report any issue that you find, to help us make the final 8.0 as good as possible.

Emulators make it easy to run vintage software in a window on a modern machine, but without specialist knowledge of obsolete systems, it can be hard to do much with them. It turns out, unexpectedly, that a good answer to this is… run them in a browser.
MacOS9.app is the latest, and in some ways the most impressive, installment of "the Infinite Mac," a series of five web-based emulators of classic Macintosh computers. It adds a MacOS 9 version to the existing System7.app and MacOS8.app emulators. That meant changing emulation engine, since MacOS 9 is PowerPC-only. All of them load inside a web page, but execute on your local machine; their storage is online, streamed on demand, and comes preloaded with a swath of apps and games… but even so, they're set up to allow you to load and save files from your local drive, and they can even network with other instances of themselves.

It extends and improves the previous versions with a new level of stability per technology. We confirm that we really enjoy computing Kinetically, with this Kudu system. Kali Linux is a popular open-source Linux distribution that is widely used by security professionals and researchers for penetration testing, forensic analysis, and other tasks related to cybersecurity. The latest version of Kali Linux, 2022.4, was released in November 2022 and includes a number of new features and improvements.
One of the key highlights of Kali Linux 2022.4 is the inclusion of the new ZSH shell, which replaces the default Bash shell that was used in previous versions. ZSH, or Z Shell, is a highly customizable shell that offers a number of powerful features, such as command completion, globbing, and command history. This makes it easier and more efficient to use the command line in Kali Linux, which is an important tool for many security tasks.
I know a ton of these are made by many people with pretty much every distribution of GNU/Linux. I started this a number of years ago and it was a straight forward bash script last November I stuck a menu system in place and tried to make it more easier to use and look at.
This year I decided to give it an overhaul and researched hundreds of posts to see what new and veteran users do most after installing the best operating system out there which is of course Fedora Linux.

Moore’s Law and the rapid progression of technological development have one very serious downside: e-waste. Because so many electronic devices become obsolete within just a few years, the world ends up with literal mountains of discarded devices that no longer serve any practical purpose. Fortunately, humans value more than practicality. Eddie Farr proved that when he turned an old and broken TI-83 calculator into this interesting Tee Eye sculpture that tells a story.
If you were in school any time in the last 25 years, then you probably used a TI-83 calculator. For a while, it was the graphing calculator and updated versions are still sold today. A friend of Farr’s found this particular TI-83 while out on a run. It was covered in mud and completely non-functional. Most people would have ignored it or thrown it away, but Farr has vision and wanted to revive the calculator. After days of cleaning, he was able to make it turn on. But it still wasn’t completely functional, as only have the screen worked and several of the input keys were dead.

The new LTS Candidate, LTC-108 108.0.5359.75 (Platform Version: 15183.59.0), is being rolled out for most ChromeOS devices. If you have devices in the LTC channel, they will be updated to this version. The LTS channel remains on LTS-102 until March 9th, 2023.
PHP finally released 8.2.0 release after 7 release candidates. Here are the new features and how to install guide for all current Ubuntu LTS.
PHP 8.2.0 allows to mark a class as readonly, which will add the readonly modifier to every declared property, and prevent the creation of dynamic properties. Moreover, using the AllowDynamicProperties attribute on readonly class will trigger a compile-time error.
Security updates have been issued by Debian (leptonlib), Fedora (woff), Red Hat (grub2), Slackware (emacs), SUSE (busybox, chromium, java-1_8_0-openjdk, netatalk, and rabbitmq-server), and Ubuntu (gcc-5, gccgo-6, glibc, protobuf, and python2.7, python3.10, python3.6, python3.8).
Cisco released a security advisory for a vulnerability affecting IP Phone 7800 and 8800 Series. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial-of-service condition. For more information, see the Cisco Security Advisories page.
This particular hack will be adjudicated in court. State court, I think, which means the answer might be different in different states. It’s not an example I discuss in my new book, but it’s similar to many I do discuss. It’s the act of adjudicating hacks that allows systems to evolve.

I thought the last nice weather window would be the hike I had done on the 6th, but nature decided to grace us with one more snow-free day in Switzerland before I leave, so I decided to head back to the Saentis massive and visit the other side.
I started at Bruelisau and hiked first to Saemtisersee, then to Faehlensee. At this point, my good fortune began to fade as the tube to my water bladder from solid. I really should have seen this coming sooner, but I got lucky the last three hikes and my hubris carried me forward. Needless to say, I ended up chewing on snow for the next 5 hours, which wasn't great for staying hydrated.
