_goblin"There are some great apps that aren't yet available to Ubuntu users and Canonical would like to know the priority that users would like to see them. This list is indicative not"Feb 11 22:09

_goblinso Canonical lets people lie about what Canonical wants on their own forums do they?Feb 11 22:10
jonoI am sorry if you example was supposed to prove me otherwise, but you are pointing to a community pollFeb 11 22:10

_goblinJono: You don't use polls?  Well you certainly use public opinion which is why OO returned.Feb 11 22:11
jono_goblin, as I said, we do listen to public opinionFeb 11 22:11
jonoof course weFeb 11 22:11
jonodoFeb 11 22:11

_goblinit probably would.....and youre right....Feb 11 22:16
jonoand the GIMP is staying as a top level supported app, just not on the discFeb 11 22:16
_goblinquestion here jono (and I don't know the answer) merely want to know....Feb 11 22:16
jonoin fact I am asking the Ubuntu Software Center folks to produce the Features Apps feature so we can highlight GIMPFeb 11 22:16

sebsebsebMinceR: and I think  Micrsooft made that deal with Yahoo after CanonicalFeb 11 22:20

_goblinOn a serious note, am I being unreasonable (or wrong) when I say the in-out decisions of Canonical would not bode well with a company considering Ubuntu take up....is that unfair?Feb 11 22:24
sebsebseb_goblin  don't know, but companies will tend to only use the LTS'sFeb 11 22:24
MinceRi'm not sure if i understand that sentence, _goblin :)Feb 11 22:24
_goblinI'll example....Feb 11 22:25
sebsebsebfrom what I know about 10.04,  it doesn't  target business users much at all, the desktop versionFeb 11 22:25
jono_goblin, ultimately I don't think it matters, companies typically focus on released features and don't base decisions on promised features as software always slipsFeb 11 22:25
ThistleWebcompanies also choose to take their community feedback as "opinion" which can be ignored when they need the money moreFeb 11 22:27
ThistleWebit's about prioritiesFeb 11 22:27
_goblinsay your firm is considering switching 100 machines to Ubuntu.  You understand that package X,Y,Z and hire consultants (or whatever) to plan for a large scale deployment of that software bundle.....then all of a sudden its removed....keep in mind how a firm would feel should there be what seems to be an "in" out ethos of packages....the point I make is more one of confidence in the Ubuntu product and whats percieved as last minuFeb 11 22:27
_goblinte decisions and changes of mind surely can't bode well for Canonical image.....Feb 11 22:27
_goblin(sorry for the delayed example, I was trying to put across why I percieve an issue)Feb 11 22:27
sebsebsebon the subject of software being removed from default installFeb 11 22:28

sebsebseb, but I expect that mainly only effects home/consumer users not business usersFeb 11 22:28
jonobut I don't there is ever a good time to make that decision in a release cycleFeb 11 22:28
_goblinjono: that was my point.Feb 11 22:28
_goblinit was a perception thing...Feb 11 22:28
_goblinit may not be last minute for Canonical...Feb 11 22:28
MinceR_goblin: i don't know, probably depends on the companyFeb 11 22:29
jonoI think the problem is that the news of removing an app is not tied to the point in the cycle, if a company doesnt like the decision, it wont like it at any pointFeb 11 22:29
jonobut also, the integration solution is low, they just install from the repoFeb 11 22:29
