Summary: The GNU maintainer of Jami, GNUzilla and IceCat says there are "some possibilities on where we could go from here if we would like to have a better net/web in the future for user freedom, privacy, and control."

THE Gemini Protocol/GemText and/or Geminispace are being considered by Richard Stallman for GNU and the FSF. It seems inevitable and even though the talks from this year's LibrePlanet aren't publicly available yet (not as video, only text) it is encouraging to see not only Alexandre Oliva and Dr. Stallman airing their concerns about the general direction/trajectory of the World Wide Web.

As discussed above, this past weekend's talks included one about Gopher and Gemini; the latter is mentioned by name for the second year in a row. From this morning's blog post and Gopher post:

Today I gave a talk at LibrePlanet 2022[1] about the internet and the web, giving a brief account of the web's past, its current state, and ideas for better futures.

In this talk I go over the old web (of 1990s and early 2000s) and how websites looked back then, fast-forwarding to the present day and the sad current state of the web, and some possibilities on where we could go from here if we would like to have a better net/web in the future for user freedom, privacy, and control.

The Internet has life beyond the Web; many people still wrongly conflate the two.
