All-Time Low for Microsoft Windows This Month
Summary: This minutes-old screenshot shows that only ~3 out of 10 machines accessing Web sites run Windows; there are many caveats here, surely, but the trend is rather telling (tailspin)

Cry them a river, Tony
Summary: A couple of years after Benoît Battistelli put an end to proper career contracts (rather than 5-year terms without real commitment from the EPO) António Campinos is attacking the pensioners and the staff — all that amid 12% annual inflation rates in The Netherlands! — and then he wonders why staff goes on strike

EPO Applications a Meaningless Figure
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0
Summary: The EPO inviting loads of software patents may lead to perceived ‘growth’, albeit only at the expense of — or to the detriment of — the patent applications or European Patents that are actually valid as per the EPC
THE EPO has managed to ‘seed’ lots of puff pieces, at least in English, earlier this month. We can imagine it’s the same in German, French, and Spanish. Many publishers are like paid-for PR services rather than journalism.
“Don’t fall for their expensive PR charades; they’re hurting and they’re bragging about the wrong things.”Following last week's preliminary look at media spin (a slant of this kind), I’ve decided to make a quick video and explain why this is nonsense. I’ve added below the images shown in the video, including the annotation.
In an effort to fake performance and just grant lots of low-quality (and invalid/improper) patents the EPO’s management relies on obedient media which neither studies the actual impact nor cares to explain what really goes on inside the EPO. Don’t fall for their expensive PR charades; they’re hurting and they’re bragging about the wrong things. █

Site News and Patent Focus
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0
Summary: A few words of relevance to Techrights and its strategy, future direction, and technical work
THIS site will turn 16 in a few months and we’ve started testing things such as running the site on Devuan. The site is very large. It’s almost 200,000 files in total, databases aside (there are three).
Lately we’ve done a lot more work on the Gemini-to-WWW proxy (making it more robust) and we considered different styles or strategies for covering patents. We wrote many thoughts in the form of blog posts about patents and close to a thousand videos were added.
It’s safe to envision us maintaining a special focus on patents. There’s a profound deficit there and litigation firms are eager to exploit that. They pretend only they are “legally qualified” to comment on such matters while they push legally-invalid so-called ‘reforms’ (coups). The video above says a little more about that. █
Converting monopolies into money. At whose expense?
Summary: The EPO will never be the same; for 12 years it has been governed by gangsters, mobsters or banksters from France [1, 2]; they don’t know how patents work and they run the EPO like its sole goal is to make money, so they’ve obliterated oversight and brag about revenue (while granting hundreds of thousands of invalid monopolies in Europe)

When Team UPC Dominates the Media
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0
Summary: With unconditional help from coup-installed EPO presidents Benoît Battistelli and António Campinos Team UPC is pushing to replace legitimate, common courts with a bunch of kangaroo courts like the EPO's internal tribunals; due to the demise if not death of journalism there’s nobody left to challenge them, except maybe in some blog comments (most posts do not allow comments though), so we can expect the EPO to lower the patent bar — in effect allowing European software patents provided buzzwords like “Hey Hi” get added — in hopes of suitably rigged ‘courts’ rubber-stamping the practice some time in the future
THE sub-continent Europe (not just EU) is under attack. The attackers aren’t just foreigners (external or outsiders to Europe) but domestic opportunists who neither create anything nor value those who do. They make money from lawsuits.
A decade ago or even 5 years ago it was still possible to find some punditry or journalism regarding the UPC; but newsrooms have been systematically defunded, so nowadays it’s hard to find anyone who properly assesses what’s at stake. Maybe it’s hardly shocking that, as shown to the right, many people search for UPC information with the word
"techrights"
added.
The above video is a sort of news walkthrough. It’s intended to show just how horrible the Web has become. It’s nearly impossible to get any real information; if someone does write honstly about the topic, it’ll get drowned out by noise, deception, fake news, and even straw man arguments (bogus arguments against the UPC in place of the real ones).
There will be more videos about patents (currently on their way); we’re still assessing what kind of format suits this best. Effective rebuttal does not send traffic to falsehoods, just sufficientvisibility for rebuttal’s sake. █
“When asked by Ars, the EPO’s spokesperson mentioned the imminent arrival of the unitary patent system as an important reason for revising the EPO’s internal rules…”
Now they say it might start in 2023. Sometimes you need to learn to ignore self-serving liars and lawyers looking to undermine laws and violate constitutions for personal gain.
Summary: Bristows over the years (the above people have since then stepped down)
Of course Team UPC never participated in science and innovation (it’s just a clique of self-serving NPCs)
Team UPC is crushing the EPC for financial gain
Summary: The EPO and the EU can become casualties of the cross-Atlantic patent litigation ‘cartel’, fronted by Benoît Battistelli and António Campinos
