schestowitzThis week (after a replacement M.2 drive arrives) I will be ripping the Ubuntu off of a Dell XPS 13 and loading Fedora in its place. schestowitzThe fastest way to turn GNU/Linux into Windows is to mix it up with non free software. Much of the problem is a natural consequence of dealing with ACPI, EUFI, and other garbage from Microsoft that was designed to thwart free software.May 01 08:37
schestowitzThe ruin of Debian, as I see it, has been their becoming more like Red Hat - complex, opaque, and accepting of non free software as “practical.” SystemD based Debian is a long way from the simple but very functional systems I was using between 2005 and 2010.May 01 08:37

schestowitz@Will Hill - U/EFI has a few good points - we really needed a better initial boot directory mechanism and EFI’s is rational. (I’m talking about the directory layout, not “secure boot.”) And we really needed to replace the old MBR partition table. But for the rest of the U/EFI stuff - it is mind boggling what is in there, and we seem to know only a piece of what’s there.May 01 08:37
