schestowitz> Hello.Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> The "Gemini Links" section of the Techrights news feed on Tuxmachines Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> has broken links. It links to Gemini posts with HTTP instead of Gemini, Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> because the protocol part of the URL (gemini://) has been removed. Those Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> broken links lead to search engines like Google adding http:// by Aug 29 02:58

schestowitz> Google Search Console for the respective domains.Aug 29 02:58

schestowitz> Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Search for "Gemini* and Gopher" on the page, because the in-page linking Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> (#m2622344501) doesn't work. For Saturday 26th of August 2023, there are Aug 29 02:58

schestowitz> Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> They all don't work, because the missing protocol will be completed to Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> http, but the pages don't exist on the web, they only exist on Gemini. Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Search engines follow those links to no avail, but will try so for Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> months or even years to come, because after they found the link, they Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> won't give up easily.Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> It would be good idea to fix this and re-add the gemini: protocol part Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> or to not publish those links at all.Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Aug 29 02:58
schestowitz> Because even if those links are fixed, some Gemini capsules explicitly Aug 29 02:58

schestowitzHi,Aug 29 02:58
schestowitzI've just taken a look. This boils down to a buddy Drupal extension, which isn't just old but does not know how to deal with gemini protocol. The good news is, we'll be retiring the Drupal site (a year ago we already made a replacement), so no more links such as these will exist. Patching software for something we're already deprecating would be a lot of work.Aug 29 02:58
