Imagine Canada Enabling Rapists to Harass Their (Rape) Victims

Cancelled Support Survivors

This analogy is applicable because abusers are empowered against the abused

TODAY we follow up on last week's short article about attacks on women using falsified addresses, anonymity software etc. A major misogynist opened 4 or 5 cases at zero cost only to harass just about anyone online - an old tradition. It's not like it's going to go anywhere. As someone explained to me, the case handler has limited jurisdiction even in Ontario. You'd have to be an employer, landlord, a facility (like a movie theater or a library), a trade union, or a service. None of this applies to any of the respondents, so this is clearly a waste of taxpayers' money and resources, clogging up the system and obstructing legitimate complaints.

"You're not really any of those things even if you were in Ontario somehow," I was reminded. "They clearly don't have jurisdiction over this for many reasons."

"I would also point out that the IRC is available to Canadians only because it's not possible to block anyone in the world from accessing it. Despite trying to block [the misogynist ... ] always returned using Tor (a global anonymity network that pretends that the visitor is from anywhere in the world. So the only way to block misogynist permanently would be to take everything offline so nobody anywhere can access it, which is not feasible."

"And that [the misogynist] was not excluded for being trans, but rather because of unacceptable behavior that involved harassment and illegal behavior that is shocking to the reasonable and average person. Including, but not limited to homophobia, racism, xenophobia, and accusing people of committing bestiality."

"And that after being banned, [the misogynist] continued harassing us by joining and leaving with an obscene and harassing QUIT message before we could do anything about that Tor connection."

"This continued until we had to ban all of the publicly listed Tor nodes from connecting to the IRC system."

Anyway, this isn't what we want to cover and waste time on. Let's just say that some mentally-ill people are incapable of participating in civil society and no amount of help can change that. This has gone on for at least a decade and a half.
