  • Four boxes

    We have the ballot box and the bullet box… How about the ballet box? 🩰 Some art feels like just what I need right now.

    The version of the four boxes that I remember from Usenet had mail box (talk to your representatives), soap box (rant about them publicly), ballet box (vote against them), and ammo box (…??!? Implied: shoot them?!?!!?). Not into it! I can’t fight! If there’s a war between good and evil, good would lose since it’s evil to fight! Even if good did win, it would’ve become evil through fighting, so that’d still be evil that took the throne.

  • In the woods (ROOPHLOCH 2024)

    I'm writing this on my phone, sitting on a bench beside a little stream in a patch of woodland that's only a shortish walk from my house, as my first ever ROOPHLOCH entry!

    It's not quite the wilderness or rural idyll that you might be picturing as I'm on the edge of a town and there's a road very close by with frequent traffic, but I'm still very lucky to have such easy access to somewhere like this. I should probably make more use of it than I do.

    I don't have very much to say here, but I've spent quite a while sitting and just enjoying the sound of the water and the fresh air. I normally don't do this sort of thing, usually when I go outside it's with some sort of purpose. Even if that purpose is just wandering around taking photographs, I'm still generally moving around a lot and rarely stay in one place for long.

    In this case the purpose was to write this entry, of course. I was originally going to write a bit about my plans for the capsule (including a sort of "digital garden" set of notes on various topics) and my thoughts on publishing some parts to the web alongside Gemini, but I'll leave those for another time.

  • Pathways to emotional vulnerability

    I took note of a lot of them I found particularly interesting and shared some with friends, but there was one that really stuck out to me that has since been lost to time. Maybe it still exists, but I have no idea how to find it. It was something like this:

    The website was kind of like a personal profile; I don't think it had a blog, but it had a lot of details about the person who maintained it. One of the pages the author described as a sort of friendship business card. Their idea was that if they noticed a stranger in public whom they thought was cool, they'd leave a little note complimenting them that included a link to this page, which talked about who they were and gave some context for the note.
