Holidays at home
Friday we went to hear some classical music at the Tonhalle in ZĆ¼rich. Thorvaldsdottirās composition was amazing. Apparently there will be more Icelandic elements this season. š
Tonhalle-Orchester ZĆ¼rich, Paavo JƤrvi, Music Director, VĆkingur Ćlafsson, piano: Johannes Brahms Klavierkonzert Nr. 1 d-Moll op. 15.

Self-righteous condescending paternalism in the kink communities
Someone recently brought to my attention a FetLife post in which the writer described extreme bruising from kink play as āself harmā and ādangerousā, saying how she's not going to stand by and endorse those. In response, people are calling her ābraveā.
Asserting what's appropriate for a given person without knowing the specifics of their life, physiology, and health conditions isn't ābraveā, it's self-righteous condescending paternalism.
One can't make comments about the safety or otherwise of the bruising on a specific person without knowing the context; for some people, _any_ bruising is high-risk (for example, those with certain medical conditions), whereas for others, spectacular bruising might actually be relatively low-risk given their overall health (in which their body will probably heal quickly from the injuries).

š² British Indian Restaurant Curry At Home
It should surprise no one when I say that I love a curry. Indian food, in general, if Iām honest. Just the smell of those spices gets my mouth watering. When we lived in Cumbria, we rented a house 50m away from an Indian restaurant, and every Friday, we had a takeaway. It was bliss. Wales has been a little more sketchy, and I miss that place a lot. Abergavenny, unfortunately, isnāt blessed with the quality of Indian Restaurant that, say, Carmarthen is. A constant frustration.

23 September 2024
Wow, time really flies by this year.. most days it somehow feels like i would need at least 48 hours in the day to somehow get done what needs to get done. Its... frustrating somehow.
Regarding the question i asked in my last post about the number of active gopher users i got an answer on mattos phlog and well, based on his answer i would guestimate that there are at least a couple hundred people out there that are somewhat connected to the "underground" of the internet. Not bad for such a niche thing!

Herbstluftwm, and a WM journey
I went on a little window manager journey earlier this month, so I'm going to write about it a touch. I had been using a slightly hacked up version of DWM for a while - I removed the tiling algorithm in favor of maximized windows by default, and planned on writing a new tiling layout. I wanted to do a columnar layout that showed a certain max number of windows, and allowed for scrolling through the windows sequentially. Modelled after something like GNOME's material shell or paperWM extensions. I never followed through on that, though.
When I started with Linux, my first OS was CrunchBang. It's been long defunct, but there is a continuation project - CrunchBang++, which is really just a metapackage installed over a Debian base. I already run Debian 12, so I decided to install the metapackage on my system and return to the #! days for a bit. I quickly became disillusioned with the mouse-centric flow of Openbox, and also, look how they murdered my boy: [...]
