Today is World Press Freedom Day, 3rd of May
Yesterday: Richard Stallman (RMS) Says US "Magats" Have Destroyed Press Freedom in the US
In their own words [1, 2]: "Media freedom and access to information feed into the wider development objective of empowering people. Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social and political process that helps people gain control over their own lives. This can only be achieved through access to accurate, fair and unbiased information, representing a plurality of opinions, and the means to actively communicate vertically and horizontally, thereby participating in the active life of the community."
From the European Parliament, which values press freedom until that press exposes corruption at the European Union/Commission/Parliament/Council and EPO (enabled by EU politicians, who selfishly turn a blind eye to EU crimes):
In 1993, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared 3 May World Press Freedom Day, acting on a recommendation adopted by UNESCO's General Conference in 1991. This year will mark the 32nd anniversary of the day, with UNESCO and other international partners organising special events around the world.
