Richard Stallman (RMS) Says US "Magats" Have Destroyed Press Freedom in the US
Now they're exporting their attacks on the independent media to the UK, just like Russian mercenaries and war criminals:
- How Americans View 'Free Speech' in Practice
- Threats Against Techrights Always Come From Outside Britain
- Microsoft's Serial Strangler and Matthew J. Garrett Join Forces in Trying to Gag Techrights (for Exposing Microsoft Corruption and Crimes Against Women)
- Two Years After Issuing Ridiculous Threats and Choosing a Law Firm in Debt (Probably Desperate for Clients) Matthew J. Garrett Gets Help ('Bailout') From Microsofters
- Brett Wilson LLP Reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
Say what you will about RMS and about the First Amendment in the US. RMS isn't wrong about this: "US no longer gold standard for press freedom," says RMS this week. For more see below:
Here in the UK (he was here last week and the person we counter-sued - and who casually defames RMS - will need to fly here later this year [1, 2]) we're going to spend the next few years pursuing reform, triggered by monsters from Microsoft who literally strangle women and then try to 'strangle' reporters in another continent* (for merely reporting the facts). This site abandoned the US two years ago and now they misuse a foreign system for SLAPPs or even SLAPP-chaining (bluntly illegal extortion or corporate extortion - a very serious offence in the UK; perhaps they have too little left to lose), which we'll moreover cover for years to come. It's an important topic.
RMS is right about the US. He's also aware of the problem with UK libel law - a remnant of imperial times, just like D-notices, a "typically British fudge that has survived a century".
