Google Versus Journalism
Lately we've written a great deal about Google sending a lot of traffic to slopfarms, i.e. rewarding plagiarists. It has gotten truly ridiculous and Google has just been asked by The Register MS about its "Ouroboros Problem" [1, 2] (Google citing slop that it produced as "proof" of more slop).
Incredibly enough Google just chose to shoot the messenger and said: “AI detectors have not proven their effectiveness at detecting AI generated content".
So Google has no actual interest in tackling the issue of LLM slop. Instead, Google generates yet more of it. The audacity of calling its slop "Gemini" (Bard rebranded).
This makes Google an enemy of the Web, an enemy of information, and sworn enemy of real journalism.
"The lack of news is not because of a lack of things going on. There is plenty noteworthy happening but it is simply not being reported any more," a reader said about an earlier article.
Google played a big role in the demise of news sites. Its slop fetishes are part of that. █
