This EU initiative is new and it is good news. It received some press coverage earlier this month and about a week is left for further feedback to be submitted.

Most commenters are constructive, I got told, but some commenters throw software patent FUD against FOSS.

This could even become a massive growth industry, in a trading and political bloc that sorely needs it. I will refer to Cory Doctorow in his great speech at the 39C3 conference held in Hamburg couple of weeks ago. It's hard to convey how much money is on the table here. Take just one example: Apple's App Store.
