State of the Slop, Slopfarms Containment

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Feb 12, 2026

Slopfarms still exist this year, but their visibility is limited as they have no real readers unless they SEO (or weasel) their way into Google and even then many people will dismiss them as mindless garbage. Here's a new example:

Slop or fake: Search Exposure Linux Security Threats Impacting Personal Data

There are 3 slopfarms in "linux" searches today in Google News:

Slop or fake: Anbernic RG VITA Pro Adds New Chipset And Linux

Slop or fake: Linux vs Other OS: Memory Management Efficiency Statistics 2026

Slop or fake: The InkPad One Takes Aim at Amazon’s Kindle Scribe With Open Linux Architecture and a Bold Bet on E-Reader Freedom

By this stage we've managed to keep a mental "blocklist" of sites that are basically fake, but somehow for gigantic Google it is too hard because it drowns in debt (like others) trying to dictate an interest in LLMs, even if so many people reject them.
