The Vacuum Syndrome
Parables help
As far as we can gather based on a quick or shallow research, "Vacuum Syndrome" is not a 'thing' or a convenient metaphor, at least not yet, so maybe we sort of coin it in this one particular context. We often assert or even rant that there is a severe vacuum in media coverage, especially when it comes to particular topics. This is either because of deep cuts across the press ("industry") or shallow, weak coverage, which mostly parrots press releases and/or official statements that contain falsehoods but help the "rich and powerful". Therein lies the "business model", sometimes known as "PR".
"Vacuum Syndrome" as a concept helps explain a positive thing - an opportunity. Because sometimes we look for information regarding IBM, the EPO, or Red Hat layoffs... and what comes up on the Web is... our own articles. Those articles are not false or merely hypothetical. They contain leaked evidence.
If our articles are unique enough and present exclusive evidence, we stand to gain from the vacuum. █
