Microsoft Sees Windows on Fire, Pours Gasoline Over It
Windows has fallen to an all-time low internationally and in lucrative markets. Microsoft's response: LET'S INCREASE THE PRICE OF WINDOWS!!

Earlier today we began seeing reports like the above and I've already spent several long hours thinking very hard about the "logic" (if any) at Microsoft.
If your product faces cheaper competition and this competition nearly doubles in "market share", why on Earth would you increase your own prices?
In the past, when GNU/Linux gained a lot through netbooks (2009) Microsoft reportedly paid OEMs to not install GNU/Linux or, in other words, it paid OEMs to install Windows, it did not charge them. At the end this sank netbooks and their leading OEMs. Windows was a misfit in netbooks.
The latest move from Microsoft defies logic and, as Charlie Stross put it two summers ago, "Is Microsoft trying to commit suicide?"
Stross said: "Some commentators are snarking that Microsoft really really wants to make 2025 the year of Linux on the Desktop, and it's kind of hard to refute them right now."
Look at it in 2026. Much better! █
