There's No "Next XBox"

Today we see a number of misleading headlines, or slop stories suggesting that moving away from CDs is somehow a response to Sony (which also moves away from them) and that somehow it's an opposite to Sony. In a nutshell, just weeks after people were denied access to their physical media (with games) because XBox "was down" Microsoft offers a route towards getting rid of physical media altogether.
At the same time there is vapourware and price hikes. For instance, "Gamestop on Facebook said the XBOX Series X25 will debut later this year at $899." (According to Ryan)
Months ago a 2TB model was axed.
A headline I saw yesterday said: "New Xbox ROG Console Costs Over $1,000, RIP Your Wallet".
But there's currently no new or future console, there's no "new XBox".
Microsoft wants to think there's new hardware in the making, but the company has been silent about this since the mass layoffs became a public 'hotspot' and widespread knowledge.
But "the ROG thing is different from this, it's a SteamDeck-like handheld that runs xbox games," MinceR says, and "they also have a version that runs ordinary windows instead, iirc" (it's just hardware labeled "XBox", as we noted earlier this year, and it's not XBox per se).
So it looks like all those promises and slop-generated images of "new XBox" were just vapourware. Nothing comes ahead except layoffs and price hikes. █
