At Microsoft, the Silent Layoffs Impact Executives Also
Microsoft hid the real story of Helen Chiang
Late on a Friday it was revealed that XBox was a sinking ship whose leadership departs, but now there's this suggestion that there was alleged misconduct. "An internal email initially revealed the news," Michael Manning et al wrote, "but new information from Eurogamer suggests Chiang may have lost her position over an internal 'policy violation,' with no concrete information given for her release."
It feels to some people like a betrayal: "Given how Microsoft is eager to redefine its public face in the gaming scene, cutting beloved members of their teams is an unexpected move, though we still know little at the moment."
Further down: "It's a tumultuous time to be a part of the gaming industry, and while we're more than accustomed to stories about groups of devs getting the boot, it seems like anyone can get cut these days."
XBox is a "burning platform". █
