The Non-Volatile Memory express (NVMe) is the newer storage protocol that delivers highest throughput and lowest latency. The performance of IO increased significantly with the introduction of NVMe Drives that connect directly with the PCIe bus as it allows a parallel queue depth of 64,000 commands, with 65,535 queues per cpu core compared to single queues with just a few hundred commands. It provides enterprise grade features like low latency, high IOPS and encryption compared to legacy Solid-State Drives. This benefits real-time customer applications, real-time data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and decision making using Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) inference engines.

Keeping your files private from anyone but those with superuser (root) access is easy on Linux. File permissions provide everything you need. By default, you'll have a username and primary group assigned to your account, and you can use the chmod (change mode) command to control what anyone else can view or change.
(If permissions like "750" and "rwxr-x---" don't ring any bells for you, check out these posts for insights into how file permissions work on Linux: A deeper dive into Linux permissions and Unix: beyond group and everyone else)
If you are new to Linux, then you may find yourself a bit overwhelmed with the entire process of using this operating system. However, the good news is that Linux is highly customizable and there are several commands you can use to get started with this unique platform. Today I'd like to share a tip about Okular, KDE's flagship document reader app that’s eco-certified in Germany and used professionally around the world to secure documents.
Okular has robust support for digitally signing documents using a cryptographic signature, and it's going to become even better soon. But what about signing documents using handwritten signatures, for those who live in places where digital signing hasn't caught on yet?
Now, this is typically the point at which everyone who lives in a place where cryptographic signatures are common will chime in about how handwritten signatures are pointless and insecure. And they may be right, but it doesn't matter because handwritten signatures are still used and considered valid in most of the world. And thankfully for people who live in any such part of the world, Okular turns out to support them pretty well.
Hello everyone! I am excited to announce my participation in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) with KDE Eco. I will be sharing my journey and progress through a series of blog posts as I work on the exciting project of making remote access a reality for the Energy Measurement Lab at KDAB, Berlin.
About Me
I am Karanjot Singh, a sophomore at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, India. I have had the opportunity to work as an LFX Mentee at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (KubeScape) and also as a mentor at Season of KDE 2023. With a keen interest in Free and Open Source projects, I have been actively contributing to the community for several years. My journey with KDE started in 2022 when I was a mentee in KDE’s annual program, Season of KDE. During that program, I collaborated with the KDE Eco project to create Standard Usage Scenarios for measuring software's energy consumption while collecting hardware performance information, such as CPU usage and network traffic. Since then, I have been an active member of this amazing community, and I thoroughly enjoy contributing to it.

Ultramarine Linux 38 is based on Fedora 38 and is offered with either the Budgie, KDE Plasma, Gnome, or Pantheon desktop environments. This latest release adds something special to improve performance.
That boost comes in the form of the System76 CPU schedule that prioritizes processes. The one caveat to this is that only the Gnome version automatically detects an application in use. However, all four editions do include various tweaks to the system to ensure users get as smooth an experience as possible. This includes improved startup and shutdown times.

These moves indicated a beta release is approaching — and that's now been confirmed on the Linux Mint community hub.
OpenStack, the open-source infrastructure-as-a-service project that helps enterprises manage their on-premise data centers, was never known to be easy to install and operate. That meant that very few enterprises set up their own OpenStack deployments, working with third-party vendors and consultants instead, and that small-scale deployments weren’t really viable. With Sunbeam, Canonical (the company behind the Ubuntu Linux distribution) now promises to make it significantly easier to install OpenStack in small-scale environments, thanks to its Kubernetes-native architecture.

The CRTC’s deadline for the first two Bill C-11 consultations passed yesterday after the Commission rejected extension requests from a wide range of groups. Given the limited time - there was just a single workday from when the CRTC issued its rejection until the deadline - I submitted brief comments (2023-139, 2023-140) focusing on two concerns. First, the very short timeline for submissions did not allow for completion of research into the questions posed by the CRTC, including the appropriate threshold for regulation of Internet streaming services. I argued that the approach may have excluded many interested stakeholders from fully participating in the consultation. Second, I took issue with the CRTC’s framing of the consultation, which it said was “industry focused”, a signal that the consumer related issues raised by regulatory thresholds (including consumer choice and service costs) were viewed as irrelevant by the Commission.
