The debian-private mailing list leak, part 1. Volunteers have complained about Blackmail. Lynchings. Character assassination. Defamation. Cyberbullying. Volunteers who gave many years of their lives are picked out at random for cruel social experiments. The former DPL's girlfriend Molly de Blanc is given volunteers to experiment on for her crazy talks. These volunteers never consented to be used like lab rats. We don't either. debian-private can no longer be a safe space for the cabal. Let these monsters have nowhere to hide. Volunteers are not disposable. We stand with the victims.

policy wrt distribution of modified binaries

Hi folks!

I think we should discuss the "policy wrt distribution of modified
binaries" again, since this issue comes up every few weeks and it is not
covered in the Policy Manual yet.

For "main" it is very clear (see DFSG, point 3 and 4).

In the last discussion about this topic we said that the licenses must
allow distribution of modified binaries, since

    1) we need to adapt programs to our system (i.e. filesystem) and
    2) we want to be allowed to package the file in a `.deb'.

If we continue with this policy, a few packages would have to be removed,
for example "gnuplot" (see the other thread here) and "selfhtml".

However, we allow packages without source code to go into "contrib" so we
aren't able to adapt these programs either. (And I think this is why we
refer to "contrib" and "non-free" as "semi-supported sections".)

Thus, I suggest to allow packages who's license restricts distribution of
modified binaries to go into non-free or contrib, if all other
requirements of these sections are met.

Please tell me what you think about it. I want to clarify this aspect and
add the outcome (either way) to the policy manual.

Thanks,

Chris
