DaemonFC[m]It ended when we couldn't stand her anymore and moved out a month early after she said she would not rent to us again because she didn't like me.Dec 23 02:43
DaemonFC[m]But around that time, someone left the back door open when it was 26 below (F) and her pipes blew up.Dec 23 02:44
DaemonFC[m]The day after that, and the emergency plumber visit, it happened again.Dec 23 02:44
DaemonFC[m]She accused me of sabotaging her building and threatened to sue us, so I took pictures of exposed wiring and blown up pipes and sent them to 311.Dec 23 02:45
DaemonFC[m]They fined her ans we never heard feom her again.Dec 23 02:45
DaemonFC[m]Probably too busy fixing the building properly so she could rent units in Chicago after paying them to inspect again, I imagine.Dec 23 02:46
DaemonFC[m]Daniel Peterson It's a horrible place.Dec 23 02:47

DaemonFC[m]schestowitz I'm stuck on Linux 5.3.10 until Linux 5.5 is out.Dec 23 19:43
DaemonFC[m]Intel ruined power management on Skylake and if I install a newer kernel than 5.3.10, my laptop uses nearly twice as much power.Dec 23 19:43
DaemonFC[m]They also backported the patch to every stable kernel series including 3.16.Dec 23 19:43
XRevan86DaemonFC[m]: And 5.5?Dec 23 19:44
DaemonFC[m]schestowitz I tested the difference by unplugging at 100% and letting the battery run dry. Linux 5.4 runs for a little over 4 hours if I'm browsing with Firefox and listening to music.Dec 23 19:45
DaemonFC[m]Linux 5.3.10 runs for 7.5 hours.Dec 23 19:45
DaemonFC[m]XRevan86 I'll pull in a 5.5 kernel as soon as one tagged Fedora 31 hits Koji.Dec 23 19:46
DaemonFC[m]The soft RC6 may not be perfect, but it'll have to do because I can use 5.3.10 for months if needs be and just update everything else, but I don't want to stick with it forever.Dec 23 19:47
DaemonFC[m]If I have to I can use 5.3.10 throughout the supported life of Fedora 31 and just skip Fedora 32 entirely.Dec 23 19:48

DaemonFC[m]I suppose I could alao download a kernel source RPM, apply a one liner to undo Intel's RC6 patch, and have a recent kernel with RC6 again.Dec 23 19:50

DaemonFC[m]I'd have to build each new kernel myself though.Dec 23 19:51
DaemonFC[m]I suppose I could also upload it all to COPR and let Fedora's build service make new kernels with Intel's RC6 patch backes out by changing the spec file and dropping a patch of my own into the recipe.Dec 23 19:52
DaemonFC[m]It makes me go hrrrm that such an excessive "fix" as doubling the power consumption of all their recent stuff was necessary to fix a local privilege escalation.Dec 23 20:20

DaemonFC[m]A lot of the problems with trying to make Linux work on a PC lead back to Intel bugs and software patents.Dec 23 21:02
DaemonFC[m]90% of the post install these days is tweaking the kernel to back out horrible Intel workarounds that are way worse than the bugs were, and then installing RPM Fusion packages.Dec 23 21:03
