libera.chat (Libera Chat) Turns 3 Today

When we opened Libera Chat three whole years ago, we were not sure how things would play out. There were definitely doubts that we would still be here today, working hard to provide you all with a stable collaboration platform. But here we are!

The self-hosted IRC network of Techrights turns 3 very soon and Freenode, the former home, can be explained better once the NDA expires. At one point Freenode attempted to hire me, but I turned them down. Freenode also tried to hire our host at the time; she too turned them down.

Freenode in the meantime continues to disintegrate. See the trend below, with focus on April and May (so far):

What happened to Freenode showed that "big money" cannot buy online communities. What used to be Freenode (the staff anyway) recalls: "Besides standing up a whole darn network in the blink of an eye, we are also very proud of the various other things we have accomplished in the past 36 months." █
