Trying to Make Blogs (Independent and Mostly Decentralised Platforms) What Comes After Social Control Media
Social Control Networks 'stole the thunder' of blogs, but can we get back to blogs?
The 'golden era' of online media was about 20 years ago. Most publishers had already moved online and staff cuts were not yet implemented/gradually done all across the board (it got far worse after 2008).
People have lately been blogging about blogging and asking others to do the same. We posted at least 3 links to that effect in IRC over this past week alone (some made it into Daily Links too). There is a real desire to go back to where we were. Except the browsers got a lot worse and censorship got miles worse.
It's very unusual for society to go back to older trends, except if the name or framing change. Maybe we don't need to call it "blogging" again, but the underlying activity can be the same.
Social Control Media may or may not go away in the next 5 years, but what will replace it? █
