Social Control Media is Detrimental to Modern Democracies as It Lowers the Quality of Winning Candidates

33rd President of the United States

Sound bites and lies without quality control or fact-checking beget a "race to the bottom" and political violence

AS THE latest batch of Daily Links noted, "Politicians Turn to Social Control Media 'Influencers'" and it's a bit scary considering who owns and controls (i.e. manipulates) these platforms. It's not scary only when China does this with TikTok; some rulers of Social Control Media believe women should not be permitted to drive and critical journalists should be cooked (literally). Influencers aren't much better; some of them encourage "mob justice" or justice by "likes", based on distortions, incitement etc...

I'm not that old, but I am OldEnoughToRemember™ elections before computers. I'm not a "fossil" (№№, I'm not!), but I am OldEnoughToRemember™ elections before the Web and before Social Control Media.

The quality of candidates can continue to fall and the same goes for quality of elected officials (i.e. "winners"). Society's rulers will be reduced (in quality) to match the "merits" of Social Control Media and all of us will be OldEnoughToRemember™ lies as acceptable "norm" (even parroted verbatim in corporate media that's reduced to cheap "he said, she said" as storytelling).

Social Control Media is a menace and a threat to democracy. Heck, the largest Social Control Networks are controlled by people who do not believe in democracy, don't really hold elections, and if elections do exist, they will simply buy them.

People who value democracy and elections will immediately quit Social Control Media and stop participating in it, even if they believe their participation can help (the rulers of the platforms will ensure it'll only be used to help themselves).
