Chinese Whispers About "Linux" (Apple Really)
CUPS is Apple
Further to our earlier rebuttal (of FUD), which used some humour and a bit of banter in the title ("A Cup of Apple"), an associate explains why readers ought not pay too much attention to every mention of "Linux" today. It's more about Apple than about Linux.
"The obvious counter is that CUPS is supposed to have been maintained by Apple," the associate has mentioned. "It is not Linux in any way. CUPS daemons are never Internet-facing in normal usage."
"There is a small risk via the LAN in that case, but again it was Apple which was supposed to be maintaining CUPS. They'll use this as an excuse to either change the license to proprietary or go with something comparable which is proprietary from the start, I would guess." █
