The X War is Over and the "Wayland People" Lost
The dust has settled and many rational people said they would settle on or continue using X
I don't want to inflame the "flamewars", but this one isn't like "GNOME vs KDE" or "Emacs vs Vim". This is about something that works versus something that barely works or might work sometimes for some people, as Igor Ljubuncic explained yesterday.
Yesterday I also saw some more trolling and name-calling from the "Wayland People". I sighed and moved on. I didn't link, I ignored. Stop feeding the trolls.
So in June 2025 we had just yet another round of "X is dead!"
I lost count of how many such rounds we had before. Ask Phoronix, it cannot stop spreading this type of FUD, since... what? A decade ago? Longer?
At the end what will happen is, most distros will provide a non-(X)Wayland option. Or people will leave those distros, effectively leaving them to rot and perish. People will gravitate towards what works for them. X works.
When will be the "final round" of "X is dead" or "Wayland is the future"? 2035? It's not a certainty that IBM will still exist that year, judging by the pace of mass layoffs. █
