Slopwatch Makes the Web Better
Ever since we called out LinuxIac [1, 2, 3] on the LLM slop (I had also contacted the editor, who did not deny this) the site has improved; I manually check its output (both manually and with tools, but the eye can typically catch slop if one is familiar with its patterns and originality; I became quite good at it) every day, sometimes several times per day. There's a real improvement.
Remember what happened to BetaNews?
See, calling out the culprits can help. Sometimes they decide to rethink their approach, knowing they're being watched and would likely get caught (and called out) if they cheat with LLMs.
I've meanwhile noticed this new article in French. The image looks like slop, but the text seems original, even if I cannot comprehend French:
Richard Stallman calls LLMs "bullshit generators". I agree but would rather not use a word like "bullshit".
If we can convince people to be original and creative, not "bullshit artists", society will be better off and honest people will gain. █
