Social Control Media is Out of Style
What's your excuse for wasting time on (or "in") it?
I consider the past few years the most productive and gainful in my entire life. Prior to that I had merely an illusion of productivity, e.g. posting about Wikileaks, editing Wikipedia sometimes, basically feeding the paid-for shills online, whose goal was to fight against me. Why bother fighting with them? They get paid, you don't, and as long as they get paid they're going to win eventually. That sort of sums up what Wikipedia is and who controls it.
But I digress.
In February 2022 I quit all those sites that call themselves "social". All of them! No exception.
Am I missing out on anything? No, not really.
See, my wife and I still share videos, photos/images, and textual messages with people who are real friends and family. We do our communications in private, in our own domain, which we manage. We also have E2EE voice set up. This means that when we speak to people nobody can listen in.
Since we're not in social control media we're never taking and sharing photos of what we eat or post about where we go. Why bother? Social "Rat Races" and "Social Anxiety" (connected phenomena) are tiring and wasteful. Many years ago we both opted out of those "online games" (where there are scores such as "likes"). My wife became totally inactive in all social control media sites over a decade ago. Instead she runs Tux Machines, looks after animals, cooks, does exercise etc. Not even a single minute of her day gets wasted on social control media.
We can only hope that more people out there will choose to make similar decisions and then realise how much better life gets. █
