Chat Control 2 Them, Not 2 U
Follow the advice of Dr. Patrick Breyer
"Chat Control" is about control. Whose control? Who controls who?
Most people won't have time or genuine desire to read their (language, localised) version of Chat Control and Chat Control 2 legislation, not because it's a lot of text that's legally "technical" but because the average adult is overworked and stressed at work. Even if he or she read the darn thing and understood it, then what? What to do? Contact the local politician? Like the ones bribed by Microsoft [1, 2]? They gravitate towards donor money, potential employers, not constituents. They "lean to the green", the green banknotes, as Larry Lessig habitually says in his older talks (attributing this humorous analogy/wordplay/punchline to somebody else).
Chat Control and Chat Control 2 aren't the first of their kind. Remember what Aaron Swartz campaigned against? They kept renaming it each time it failed. The same was done repeatedly by Team UPC; the old criticism and critics could not keep up with the latest buzzwords and misleading selling points (sales pitch), nor could Google (the criticisms to be found online addressed something that was no longer known or could no longer be referred to by the "old" name).
Chat Control isn't just an EU thing; it's an extension of a corporate, transatlantic phenomenon we still see in the UK after 'brexit' (the demands from Apple are back; don't be misled by outdated reporting about some American official from Hawaii, who knows absolutely nothing about technology, unlike Ron Wyden).
The US National Security Agency (NSA) is as untrustworthy as the President of the USA. Chat Control is for - and enabled by - USA/NSA. It's not about national security or continental security/safety across Europe. It's just about keeping the population under control. Whose control? Some other continent for the most part, the continent which attacks European journalism and even its own press.
Some years ago I spoke to Dr. Patrick Breyer, who understands the underlying issues well and writes about them in German and English. Listen to what he says. Act accordingly. █
