25 Years of Activism for GNU/Linux
I've been using GNU/Linux for over 25 years, but I've actively advocated or promoted it to others since some time in late 2000, inspired in part by my Finnish friend at University. He told me "Linux" was Finnish and his knowledge of it was more advanced than mine (he was a few years my senior). Later on I started returning to IRC and to USENET (those weren't new) and promoted GNU/Linux. Remember this predates social control media; the closest thing to that were online forums and various portals, which acted more like bulletin boards (no JavaScript, no "passive" or "off-line" notifications). Back then my E-mail domain was not (yet) my own.
Finnish folks take pride in Linux, which is fine even though many other good things (such as IRC) came from the same country. But GNU/Linux actually started in the United States and it's about the same age as me.
My passion for GNU/Linux brought a lot of contentment (sense of purpose and progress). It also attracted vicious enemies - merely a sign of the impact of what I do in recent years. At the same time it opened up opportunities to cover related topics, including software patents (Novell) and - in turn - EPO corruption. Those are not purely technical issues; many are inherently political, so they attract the wrath of malicious and sociopathic people.
Given my current health, which is improving (I sleep and eat better), I hope and plan to spend another 25 years advocating GNU/Linux with focus on sharing and Software Freedom (without them, "Linux" would be just a brand - one that's abused a lot already).
Today I noticed that slopfarms connected to Bill Epsteingate are trying to make loads and loads of noise to distract from yet more revelations about Bill Epsteingate "doing" young girls who are not his wives (or wife or mistress). Here's one such slopfarm with clickbait about Bill Epsteingate: (6 hours ago)
These are the sorts of malicious and sociopathic people we're up against. They try to silence us. They'll never stop trying to silence us. █
