Google News Drowning in Slop About "Linux" (Slopfarms Galore)

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Feb 06, 2026

2026 started relatively well in the sense that finding slop about "linux" (or related strings) was no longer easy. Yesterday and on Wednesday, in RSS feeds, all we caught was this:

Slop or fake: What Is SELinux? A Practical Take for Linux Admins

Yesterday, however, Google News was full of noise, or slopfarms, about "linux". It was like 2024 or 2025 all over again. So we want to document this.

Google News links to this pair of slopfarms:

Slop or fake: LockBit 5.0 Targets Windows, Linux, and ESXi With Cross-Platform Ransomware

Slop or fake: LockBit 5.0 Unveils Cross-Platform Threats for Windows, Linux and ESXi Systems

This slop blames "Linux" for the wrong thing:

Slop or fake: Microsoft’s VS Code Snap Package Fails to Delete Files, Exposing Critical Linux Security Flaw

Many links to a slopfarm:

Slop or fake: Kali Linux And Parrot OS Compete For Security Users

Slop or fake: Ubuntu 26.04 Preview Shows Major Security Gains

And another slopfarm:

Slop or fake: Linux Backup Solution Adoption Rates 2026

Slop or fake: Best Linux Hex Editor Options in 2026

Slop or fake: Media Server OS Statistics 2026

Google should know better than to link to any of these slopfarms, but today's Google is itself a pusher of slop.
