Media Operatives of Microsoft Paint Microsoft Layoffs as Buyouts (Intentionally False Narrative)
Microsoft - like IBM - is trying to get rid of 'expensive' workers or people who have worked in the company since well before the 'visa frenzy'.
"Buyout" typically means one company buying another company. In recent years this word was misappropriated to mean de facto 'voluntary' layoffs, i.e. "we'll pay you some money to leave or to become 'voluntarily' unemployed." (GAFAM does this a lot, especially Google)

Those are mass layoffs disguised as something else.
