Straw Man Arguments Against Rust

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jun 15, 2026

Two High Bros: I'm Bryan Lunduke from Microsoft. I'm Bryan Lunduke from Linux. Linux sucks, man. I miss Windows.

Microsoft Lunduke is again resorting to BS "arguments" against Rust, basically asserting that because some malicious software was written in Rust, then that implies something is wrong with Rust or that Rust does not beget security. It's another sort of distraction from the real issues.

We've long complained about dishonest media trying to bemoan Golang or other languages for somehow being "dangerous" just because malicious programs can be coded in them. Or blaming WordPress for extremism because extremists can install WordPress. It would be wrong and misguided to join the "Lunduke mob" (overlaps 4chan) by leveraging the Arch (AUR) catastrophe in this fashion.

If anything, it teaches the importance of auditing packages (as well as changes made to them). And this need for auditing packages reinforces the policy we've seen about banning slop contributions - a subject we'll mention some time soon in relation to Quibble (see Part I; Part II; Part III; Part IV).
