Microsoft Will "DOOM" id Software and Others, Claim Observers

id Software, Bethesda, Quantic Dream and More to Face Major Layoffs, Studio Closures Soon – Rumor

According to this new report (published 4 hours ago by Joelle Daniels), the studios impacted by the "bloodbath" (not our word; we just see it a lot) are some of the most famous out there, including the home of "DOOM" and even Bethesda. It is apparently only the beginning as XBox may be phased out. Time's out!

Quoting the above: "While one of these reports had also indicated that we might be looking at some studios being closed down as a result, a new report by French journalist Sylvain Trinel indicates that things might be a lot grimmer for the industry at large than we might have initially thought."

polygon.com, a large news site about gaming, says Microsoft should sell XBox; it has since then toned down its article but the headline still says that "Microsoft should get out of games before it does more damage".

To quote:

News that Microsoft is considering closing three of its game studios — Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion Games — is awful, but what's truly alarming is that it doesn't stop there. According to Bloomberg, "several other studios across the portfolio are at risk of being shuttered." State of Decay studio Undead Labs hasn't shipped a game since Microsoft acquired it in 2018. Obsidian Entertainment is prolific, but last year's Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 underperformed. Rare had its big bet Everwild cancelled and can't survive on Sea of Thieves forever. At this point in Microsoft's dismally bungled adventures in gaming, it's best to think the unthinkable.

Every hour of every day it seems to be getting worse because the words are spreading inside studios (or between employees) that they need to unionise or brace for exit. As the worst predictions trickle in and out Microsoft loses control of the narrative.
