Odds
Someone asked what the odds of getting a six on any of four rolls of a six-side dice, or something like that, though I was busy eating which can make it difficult to think through these things, and too messy to use a computer to get an answer and anyways was eating. Probably bad for the digestion to be furiously cognitiving whist one should properly be relaxing after a meal. One may also forget various things having not sharpened particular tools in a while.

Keeping (Relatively) Cool plus Adventures in Solar
So this week brings our first real heatwave to western New York (I think we had a small one last month, but no one really talked about that one...), and everyone seems to be talking about how to survive the heat. So here's my tale...
I avoid using air conditioning whenever possible, as I'm something of a cheapskate when it comes to electricity, especially now that the cost is rising about 20-25% per year, and our electric company is now entirely foreign-owned (but that's another story).

pink hue
thunder roars in the distance the trees wrap their branches closer to their trunks prepared knowing the pretty pink hue in the sky is not of innocence

On the Radio - June 2026
Related to my previous blog post, here are some of the interesting things I heard for the first time on the radio over the past couple of months.

Full moon psychedelic synth
Who are these hands? Why are they pressing these buttons?
I had to fight with my hands for a while there. They had a mind of their own. They didn't feel like my hands, they looked like my daughter's hands. They would tweak my synth knobs and button, tricking me in different ways.

Camp Snap Cameras and XTEINK X4 Ereader Reviews
For stretches this gemlog has been quite tech focused but it has been a while since I've posted about anything tech related. I think the last tech post was about a 20+ year old PDA :-). I'm taking a brief respite from the food forest updates today to talk about and review some devices I've acquired recently. You may sense a theme here and with a lot of my tech interests. A move towards more focused devices that do one or a few things well instead of trying to do everything. These devices very much fall into that category.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
