Independent, But Not Fringe

It says: "Daniel Pocock is an Independent Candidate."
There's some more coverage this morning, some of it describes Pocock in more details. "The party of the incumbent candidate has over 260,000 members," he said. "Many of them will be asked to come to Clacton-on-Sea for a day or a weekend doorknocking on behalf of their candidate."
"Fringe" is one of these derogatory terms, widely applied to groups or individuals who are to be treated in a catch-all net or umbrella. Fringe tends to imply that anything that is small or minority (at present) is wrong and/or lacking in credibility/merit.
Fringe media, unlike mainstream media, typically means poor media or media not funded by billionaires, hence does not speak for billionaires.
In the context of politics, closely guarded if not controlled by media (billionaires control a lot of the media or control politics by controlling the media), the term "fringe" is designed to insult people who vote a certain way or hold particular political viewpoints.
If we were all to adopt "acceptable" politics, as defined by media controlled by billionaires, we'll only ever vote the way billionaires want us to. The billionaires won't be properly taxed, as only a "fringe" believes that rich people should "pay their share" and aren't exempted from tax because of a phony "job creator" narrative. █
