[T]he ubuntu forums are “disappearing” threads that are critical of mono … and people seem perfectly alright with that. I spent a lot of time posting to a thread yesterday, only to come back on today to see it removed from the boards. Same thing on brainstorm with votes being “disappeared”.

This happens in response to polite debates [1, 2], not disruptive people who are giving Mono critics a bad name.

Microsoft's .NET is inferior to Free software that we already have here today. It's called Java. It's most widespread and it is very mature. Compare that to the flukes of .NET, this post being the last evidence:

But ASP.NET MVC was based on ASP.NET. Which checks for the existence of a file before running any scripts. Which means it will check directories that have COM1-9, LPT1-9, CON, AUX, PRN, and NUL in them, with any extension.

And that is why, in 2009, when developing in Microsoft .NET 3.5 for ASP.NET MVC 1.0 on a Windows 7 system, you cannot include /com\d(\..*)?, /lpt\d(\..*)?, /con(\..*)?, /aux(\..*)?, /prn(\..*)?, or /nul(\..*)? in any of your routes.

Will these artificial limitations be inherited by Mono? How about viruses? We addressed this question before. ⬆

Sometimes the criticism's disappearance is not Microsoft's doing...i.e. what happened to newsforge?

Thank you, Mark. Intel and Google are not stupid enough to use Mono in their products - why the heck do YOU think you need it?

Well, you didn't want to believe me when I warned you that you are doing more harm than good to your own cause by writing masse amounts of tabloid-style slander. Now you are seeing the consequences - nobody takes you seriously, whoever tries to lobby against Mono on a Linux-forum is promptly labeled a troll.

This has nothing to do with Microsoft's influence, it is all your own doing.

Sadly, some people discuss the Mono topic only in developer terms. But in reality business concerns overrides development issues. The CEO decision is more worth than what the developer wants. I am not sure if all Mono supporters are aware of the real business life. I think some of them imagine an MS representative sitting on his desk and thinking one beautiful morning: "Now we have made enough money. It is time to think about what we can do for the society. I see, we help the GNU/Linux movement to prosper. They are such nice persons." No, wrong way. It is about shareholder values, lobbying, sales pitches, marketing, PR, patent strategy, strategic alliance, judicial subjects, etc. All the planning is result-oriented concerning financial issues and not designed to improve society.

I am not against money making for a living but I am against making money on expenses of a free society.
